My Nordic Walking Friend

Created by Catherine 4 months ago

I have only known Caroline for just over 5 years, when she joined our Nordic Walking Group in Oakhill Park, Tuesdays at 9.00am!  We really got to know each other better when the main group stopped and then just three of us, Caroline, Christine and I used to meet up.  This was even better as we always stopped for coffee afterwards!  The only snag with the smaller group was that we had to ask Caroline to slow down as she was such a fast walker!

Sadly, in January 2021, Christine, our friend, died after a stroke, but Caroline and I continued our regularly, almost weekly, walks.  Despite meeting so often, we never ran out of topics for conversation, whether it was new places to visit, eat or just news of the day, which usually ended up with a good moan!  It was also a rare occasion when Caroline didn’t meet someone she knew in Oakhill Park!

After her diagnosis, Caroline was determined to keep on with walking when possible and the after-walk coffees became even more important.  Throughout this period, I could not believe how brave she was.

I shall miss you, Caroline:  Your sense of humour, your interest in others and in life;  Your pride in your family and care for them.
I miss you and will think of you always and when I do go back to Oakhill Park, you will be there with me in my thoughts.

RIP Caroline
